Kottayam: Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has asked the LDF government to come out in the open about the details of the proposed greenfield airport which has been given nod by the Cabinet.
Participating in a meet-the-press programme here on Thursday, Mr. Chennithala said failure of the government to provide the land identified for the project gave the impression that the government was hiding something from the public regarding the project. “We are not against the airport project, but want to know where it is coming up,” he said.
“The government says it is for the benefit of the Sabarimala pilgrims that the greenfield airport is being constructed. I hope they would fulfil their responsibility to the public by announcing the land identified for the project,” he said.
The Opposition leader alleged that there was lapse on the part of the State government in recovering the Cheruvally estate, the ownership of which has been contested by private agencies. “We have sought an RTI reply from the State government on the measures taken so far to recover the land from private agencies,” Mr. Chennithala said.
