Cidco racing against time to finish airport levelling work

Navi Mumbai: While the CEO of GVK-led MIAL, R K Jain, has described the Navi Mumbai International Airport project as "full of challenges", Cidco has said it will try and finish the runway portion work in the hill area at the earliest and hand it over to the strategic partner for starting work.
This, Cidco officials said, will ensure "simultaneity of operations to meet the deadline".
The cutting of Ulwe hill and diverting the river in the 1,160 hectares of core aeronautical area constitutes the major chunk of the work. The time set to finish the project has been pegged at one to one-and-a-half years in order to meet the 2019 deadline.
The hill has to be cut to 8m (the highest point being around 92m). Cidco also has the task of filling up the low-lying areas to 5.5m with the hill debris and the strategic partner will fill the rest 2.5m.
