DRI seizes foreign currency at city airport

Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested a 21-year-old resident of Bhatkal for alleged illegal possession of assorted foreign currency worth Rs. 35.02 lakh, at the Mangaluru International Airport on Thursday night.

According to a press release, on a tip-off the DRI sleuths intercepted Abdur Rub as he was proceeding towards the immigration counter after finishing formalities at the check-in.

He was going to board a Jet Airways flight to Dubai.

The sleuths found foreign currency concealed in tea and confectionery packets.

Mr. Rub possessed US dollars, Saudi Riyals, UAE dirham and Australian dollars.
