Navi Mumbai airport levelling work begins

Mumbai: Even as the project-affected people (PAP) of Navi Mumbai airport are yet to vacate their houses, Cidco, with the help of local leaders, began pre-construction works on Thursday that include cutting of hillocks and levelling the airport area by dumping the soil dug out from the hillocks.
The area needs to be raised by 7m above the sea level to restrict flooding. The work to move overhead high-tension electric wires, shift Ulve river by retaining its groundwater streams and create mangrove lagoons will soon begin.
