Rs 39L foreign currency seized at airport

Panaji: The air intelligence unit of Goa customs at Dabolim airport on Tuesday intercepted two international passengers, natives of Kasargod, Kerala, at the departure hall with foreign currency worth Rs39 lakh.
The passengers had concealed the currency between the inner and outer layers of their backpacks.
The currency has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The seizure was made by the air intelligence team of Goa Customs under the supervision of additional commissioner of customs G B Santimano, and under the guidance commissioner of customs R Manohar.
Over the past three months, customs officers have booked four cases of gold smuggling (4.6kg) valued at Rs1.42 crore and also seized 5kg of ganja.
