18kg drug seized at Cochin International Airport

Chennai: Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths seized 18kg of cand 600gm of N-Acetylanthranilic acid from the air cargo terminal at the Cochin International Airport on Thursday night.
Acting on an alert given by the Chennai zonal unit, the Kochi sub-zone of the NCB seized contraband, which is worth Rs 1 crore in international market.
They were to be smuggled to Malaysia, concealed in the cavities of big tea kettles (samovar). Ten kettles were used for the drug trafficking operation.
Ephedrine comes under the controlled substances as notified by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. It is a precursor drug to manufacture methamphetamine, which is a popular party drug Southeast Asian countries.
