‘Airport expansion: land losers will get fair compensation’

Coimbatore: The committee for the land acquisition for Coimbatore airport expansion inspected the proposed lands to be acquired in Uppilipalayam, Kalapatti, Irugur, Singanallur and Chinniampalayam on Friday. The panel said that it would strive to get a fair compensation to the owners of land that are being subjected to acquisition.

The committee was led by the Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner for Land Administration Mohan Pyare.

Mr. Pyare inspected the boundary lines of the lands to be acquired in the villages, fallow lands, residential areas, leased lands owned by the Airports Authority of India and ways to create alternate routes to the Airport.

Following the inspection, the property owners were called for a meeting at the Collectorate, where, Mr. Pyare received petitions demanding objecting for land acquisition, hiking the quantum of compensation and as well as plea for alternate land.

Some of the land owners expressed that they have given representations and explained the field level situation. “The members must have come to a conclusion. However, they have not discussed their views with the land owners. We are waiting for the details,” said a land owner.
