Gold seized from Trichy airport

Trichy: The air intelligence unit of customs recovered Rs 25 lakh worth gold bars weighing 886gm from three air passengers who arrived at Trichy international airport by Malindo Air and Sri Lankan Airlines on Tuesday.
The passengers were identified as Mohammed Rafique, 39, of SP Pattanam in Ramnad district, Mohammed Abdulla, 35, and Abdul Samad, 49, both from Chennai. According to customs officials, they recovered 300 gm gold worth Rs 8.15 lakh, concealed in a mobile phone charger, from Mohammed Rafique when he arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Malindo air. Mohammed Abdulla was caught with 375 gm of gold worth Rs 10.20 lakh concealed inside a home theatre system. He arrived here from Colombo.
Abdul Samadh who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Malindo Air was caught with 229 gm of gold worth Rs 6.55 lakh. The customs authorities have confiscated the gold and are conducting an inquiry.
