Now, pickup points make boarding of app-based taxis at airport easier

Chennai: Travellers will now be able to board app-based taxis with ease as Airports Authority of India (AAI) has assigned pickup points for Ola and Uber cabs at Chennai airport.
Boards have been put up at pick up spots which are closer to the terminals. A separate lane and a parking space have also been alloted for the cars to prevent them from encroaching into the zone used by prepaid taxis and a licensed private taxi operator.
The airport has a private taxi operator who pays a license fee per year and a fixed-rate prepaid taxi run by a driver cooperative. However, the two services are expensive than app-based taxi like Uber and Ola.

A senior official of AAI said two passenger pickup points each were opened at domestic and international terminals. "This makes it easy for travellers to board cabs after hiring them using the apps. Boards have been prepared and installed and a special lane has also been demarcated for the cars to drive by after picking up passengers and to park

"The pickup points are closer to the terminals for international arrivals. The pickup points help passengers to select the location from where they will board the cars. Earlier, there used to be a lot of confusion because the app-based taxis may not be allowed to pick passengers from landmarks used by other taxi service. Now, they have a dedicated space."
