Chackai residents demand demolition of airport ramp

Thiruvananthapuram: The residents of Chackai living beside the airport ramp have approached the NHAI chief vigilance officer with a request to demolish the ramp.
The ramp, which was constructed in 2010 for vehicles going towards Trivandrum International Airport, resulted in partial closure of the service road and isolation of several houses in the area.
A multi-specialty hospital functions in the area. Also, construction of a mall is in progress on the side of the road. Thus the residents are apprehensive about increasing traffic issues in the area.
After works began at the Kazhakoottam-Mukkola stretch, NHAI authorities complained about the airport ramp being an obstruction for the NH works.
The government considered a proposal to demolish the ramp in 2016. But it was not accepted by the airport authority. A new proposal for the construction of a flyover by retaining the ramp was taken up.
