'Foundation of international airport at Jewar will be laid this year'

Noida: Global agency to build the sanctioned international airport at Jewar will be appointed in July this year, Prabhat Kumar Chairman Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) who also holds post of Divisional Commissioner Meerut informed UP chief secretary Rajive Kumar on Monday after the senior bureaucrat reviewed the progress of the ambitious project. If all goes as per plan, the foundation of the project is likely to be laid in 2018. Meanwhile, the state government has nominated Gautam Budh University to complete the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report for the proposed project within the next two months and submit it to the government
Kumar directed officials to consider the airport project to be top priority. "We have discussed how the project can be fast-tracked and the timelines for taking it further on track towards initiation," he said. "I have also asked officials to remove any road blocks coming in the way of the project besides putting into place any infrastructure projects linked with the airport in a time-bound manner so that the sanctioned project does not face any delays," he explained.
On quizzing senior officials of YEIDA, they confirmed that the concessionaire (developer) for the airport project is likely to be finalized in the next 3-4 months after the SIA and Environment Impact Assessment reports are ready and submitted to the state government and section 11 of the Uttar Pradesh Land Acquisition Act 2013 is invoked. "This should happen by July this year after which the foundation should be laid before the end of 2018 and project will commence," said a YEIDA official.
