Air traffic to and fro Kashmir suspended due to snowfall

The national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, besides roads linking dozens of villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) with their respective district headquarters, have been closed on Monday following fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions. A man stands with an umbrella during snowfall in Srinagar. Power supply, air and surface traffic was affected in the Valley due to snowfall though it ended the long dry spell. This is the first major snowfall in Kashmir this winter, which was largely dry so far. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, snowfall activity is expected to reduce tomorrow and only isolated areas will be observing snow. The fresh snowfall has led to rise in minimum temperatures, but the weather is likely to be dry on Tuesday onwards across the state, an official from MeT department said. Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been suspended on Monday following fresh snowfall since early this morning, a traffic police official said. The only road link to Kashmir was closed for the traffic movement during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Thereafter, the road conditions will also be assessed before traffic is allowed on the highway.
