Trichy: Customs authorities have seized gold worth Rs 20 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Trichy airport from Dubai. He carried gold by concealing it in a toy. The passenger had arrived here by Air India Express flight during the early hours of Saturday, sources said.
According to customs officials, when they were doing the routine checking, activities of a passenger, who was identified as Shakil Ahamed of Malappuram in Kerala district, raised suspicion. When they examined his baggage, they noticed that he was carrying a toy. When they dismantled the toy, they discovered that 645 g of gold worth Rs 20 lakh was hidden inside the toy. Subsequently, the gold was seized by the customs officials and further inquiries are on.
