Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday urged the Centre to introduce direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Pune.
In a letter to Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the chief minister said Bhubaneswar and Pune share a long standing relationship between the two prominent educational and IT hubs of the country.
"Many academicians and IT professionals frequently visit both the places. Besides, tourists from Pune undertake journey to various places like Puri, Konark and Chilka while the people of Odisha visit Shirdi, Mahabaleswar, Trimbakeswar near Pune," Naveen noted.
The chief minister said since there was no direct flight between the two cities, passengers have to take flight via Hyderabad or Mumbai which is costlier and time consuming.
Seeking his personal intervention on the issue, Naveen urged Raju to introduce direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Pune either by the Air India or any other private airlines.
