A Thane resident recently lodged a complaint against an Air India staffer with Sahar police alleging that he and his pregnant wife were not allowed to board a Mumbai-Nagpur flight. He further alleged that the counter manager refused to give them boarding passes stating they were late and threatened them to throw out of airport premises.
"On May 05, I was supposed to catch a 5.50 pm flight for Nagpur to drop my pregnant wife there. We reached the airport around 4.55 am. I went to the Air India counter and informed the staffer that I am a bit late and asked for my boarding passes. The staffer informed us that they had closed the counter 15 minutes before I reached. The ticket stated that the holder needs to report to the counter 40 minutes before the flight take off, and I had reached before time. I told the staffer, identified as Deepak Patil, that my wife is pregnant and that we need to urgently leave for Nagpur, but the staffer continued to be rude and asked us to leave and called guards to take us away," said victim Rajnikant Chaturvedi, Thane resident.
"We have registered a non-cognisable complaint under sections 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code against Deepak Patil," said an officer from Sahar police station. "Sahar police said they cannot take any other action in the matter and asked us to visit the consumer forum. Even if I was late at least some option should have been given to us by the airlines. Ultimately we could not leave for Nagpur," Chaturvedi said.
