Engine snag grounds flight

Calcutta: A GoAir flight carrying 167 passengers made an emergency landing at Calcutta airport after the pilot complained of vibration in the engine on Thursday morning.

The Calcutta-Port Blair flight had taken off at 8.40am. Soon the pilot reported "severe vibration of the engines" to the air traffic control. The flight aborted its journey to the Andamans and made an emergency landing in the city at 8.57am, airport officials said.

Airport sources said the Airbus A-320 could have suffered a bird hit soon after take off, which resulted in an engine damage.

The flight was cancelled, prompting the passengers to demand an alternative flight or hotel accommodation. Airport officials said the CISF had to intervene to pacify the passengers. GoAir arranged hotel accommodation for a few, while the others were flown to Port Blair through Chennai and Delhi, sources said.
