Night landing facility, runway extension at Shirdi airport by August

Pune: The Shirdi airport will see the expansion of its runway by 700m by August. It will pave the way for more domestic flights now and and for international destinations in the future.
The airport is managed by Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC). It will enter the second phase of construction work. Officials are sure that its night-landing facility will also be ready by then.
“The runway at present is 2,500m in length and it is being extended to 3,200m. Work on it will be completed by August end. Work on making the facility a 24-hour operational airport is also going on and the night-landing facility will also be completed by then. Both projects, once completed, will be a big leap for the airport and its services,” a senior MADC official told TOI.

The airport was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind last October 1. It has two flights to Hyderabad and Mumbai with Alliance Air, a subsidiary company of Air India, operating the flights during the day hours.
