Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje has instructed officers of the Karnataka government to begin the construction of a mini-airport.
The government had notified 109 acres of land on the outskirts of the city for the project. With the land available, a runway for flights with up to 20 seats can be laid. Ms. Karandlaje gave this instruction at a review meeting she convened in Chikkamagaluru on Thursday.
An additional 41 acres of land was required to build a runway that could accommodate flights with a seating capacity of 90. “Tenders have been floated for the airport project. The work should be started soon,” she said.
