Airport Metro yard to be country’s largest underground facility

Kolkata: : Metro Railway’s Biman Bandar (airport) station yard will be the largest underground facility in the country once it is completed in 2021.
Metro general manager Ajay Vijayvargiya, along with senior officers, on Friday reviewed constructions at the yard and stressed on speedy work. At Biman Bandar, the station will be integrated, connecting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to Tollygunge, Garia, Salt Lake, Howrah and later Barasat.
“The construction methodology being used is top, down, cut and cover. It is located near the old elevated Biman Bandar station of Circular Railway, which is no longer in use. The underground The 550m-long and 41.6mwide yard will have six tracks. Construction is going on in full swing and the diaphragm wall and plunge piles are nearing completion. Work on the top slab is also under progress,” Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said.
