DGCA assurance on big aircraft operations

Kozhikode: Director General of Civil Aviation B.S. Bhullar on Monday assured a team of MPs from north Kerala that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulatory body for civil aviation under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, would give approval for resumption of operation of wide-bodied aircraft at the Calicut international airport by July 31.

The MPs—P.K. Kunhalikutty, M.K. Raghavan, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, and M.I. Shanavas—met the director general and held talks with him. The delegation also urged the DGCA to restore the Haj embarkation point at the airport, Mr. Raghavan said in a press release. He added that a joint team of the Airports Authority of India and the DGCA that conducted an inspection in October 2017 had clarified that there were no technical hurdles in allowing the operation of Boeing 777-200 and other wide-bodied aircraft under Code E.
