Chingrighata: Several travellers missed their morning flights on Monday after peak-hour traffic came to a standstill on EM Bypass as vehicles struggled to negotiate huge craters around Sukanta Nagar.
A 7km stretch from the Chingrighata flyover to the Ruby crossing remained chock-a-block with traffic for nearly two hours from 9.30am.
The impact of the snarl was so great that senior police officers from Lalbazar rushed to the Chingrighata intersection. All vehicles headed for Salt Lake and New Town were diverted from the Beleghata crossing. But by then, several employees of offices in Sector V had missed the morning meeting on the first day of the week.
