Madurai: Air intelligence unit of Customs department on Monday seized gold worth Rs. 43.33 lakh, abandoned inside a SpiceJet aircraft that arrived here from Dubai.
A team of customs officials led by its Assistant Commissioner A. Venkadesh conducted the search inside the aircraft after it landed here. They found a mobile phone in one of the seat pouches. Upon scrutiny, they found 1.349 kg of gold concealed inside the phone. This is the fourth seizure of gold in Madurai airport this month.
