10 years on, Kalaburagi dreams take flight

Kalaburagi: Exactly a decade after the commencement of the construction of Kalaburagi Airport, the first airplanes landed on its runway on Sunday.

Two lightweight four-seater trainer airplanes belonging to Asia-Pacific Flight Training Academy (APFT) landed on the runway at 10.51 a.m. and 11.18 a.m. respectively.

Captain Jahnavi, Captain Sachin Shaha and Chief Operating Officer of APFT Hemanth D.P. alighted from the first plane and Captain Abhijit and Captain Arun from the second one. Both the planes took off from the Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport for the purpose of the trial-landing exercise at Kalaburagi Airport.

As they landed, Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge, his son Priyank Kharge, leaders, Regional Commissioner Subodh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner R. Venkatesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar and the public welcomed them with applause.
Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Kharge asked the Union government to include the airport under the UDAN scheme.
