Plan to use airport for flight training

Kalaburagi: Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge has said that the process of giving the Kalaburagi Airport for flight training purposes was under process. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he told presspersons here on Sunday that two flight pilot training academies, the Asia-Pacific Flight Training Academy (APFT) and the Avicon Aero, had approached the government seeking the airport for training purposes.

“It is a good thing if the airport is in use. If the flight training activities are on, the Civil Aviation Ministry will be satisfied with the airport’s functionality and the process of commencing commercial operations would be hastened,” he said. Considering the size of the airport premises, the Minister said that aviation skill development centres could also be opened at the airport.

Speaking to The Hindu at the airport, the Minister said that using the airport for flight training purposes will help train quality pilots. “Airports in metros are too busy to give time to training purposes. Their priority is offering the space to international commercial flights followed by domestic commercial flights. In crowded metro airports, flight training institutes get very little time to train their young pilots,” he said.
