Airports Authority of India against cancellation of Andhra Pradesh airport tender

New Delhi: State-owned Airports Authority of India (AAI) has objected to the cancelling of the tender for Bhogapuram airport project in Andhra Pradesh—which it had won—and barring of all government companies from participating in future bids for the airport.
“We have registered our opposition to the Andhra government and other actions will follow this up,” a senior AAI executive, who did not want to be named, told ET. “This looks like a clear case of astate government favouring private parties and we are looking at various options to take our opposition further.”
The state government had cancelled the tender process in January, a month after AAI emerged as the winner by offering a revenue share of 30.2%. The only other contestant, the GMR group, had offered 21.6% revenue share.
On June 23 this year, the state government issued a fresh tender for the project through the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL), but barred all government companies from bidding for it.
