Kozhikode: Karipur airport authorities have informed various airlines that the airport is ready to accept additional domestic and international flights in view of the closure of the Kochi airport.
Karipur airport director K Srinivasa Rao on Thursday said that airport can accept up to six aircraft per hour between 12pm and 8pm as the airport is not busy during the period.
“We can also accept additional flights in other periods subjected to availability of parking bays. The airline operators who intend to operate additional flights to Calicut airport are most welcome to do so with necessary approval from DGCA,” he said adding that the suggestion has been mooted as lot of non-resident Keralites are stranded at various airports in the Middle East due to the cancellation of flights to Kochi.
Currently, the airport can accept only Code-C and Code-D category aircraft. For the operation of wide bodied aircraft, special approval from DGCA and AAI is required.
