Flights diverted as rain hits operations at Delhi's IGI airport

New Delhi: Heavy showers late on Tuesday evening in the capital saw a number of flights getting delayed while trying to land at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. Several flights had also to be diverted to nearby airports
Flights were diverted on account of heavy rains and traffic congestion at the airport with diversions made to airports like Jaipur, Lucknow and Amritsar among others between 11pm and 12.30am. Sources, however, said
the disruption lasted only for a short period, following which normal operations were restored.
Meanwhile, airlines took to Twitter to inform passengers about delays and diversions. "UK 882 is delayed and diverted to Amritsar due to bad weather at Delhi. Unfortunately such delays are beyond our control. Please reach out to our cabin crew or airport staff for any assistance. Thanks for your understanding," said a tweet by Vistara Airlines to a passenger.
