Flyer from Dubai held with gold in paste form

Pune: Customs officials on Sunday arrested a flyer from Dubai trying to sneak into the country with gold worth Rs28 lakh through the airport here.
Mohamed Safeer Umar Sowbar, a resident of Chennai, reached Pune from Dubai on a SpiceJet flight (SG-52). He was carrying with him the gold in the form of semi-solid paste. The yellow metal was neatly packed in two plastic pouches that were pasted on his body.
“We found the man’s movement suspicious. He was thoroughly frisked and the gold was recovered. We have extracted the gold from the paste. The gold found on him has been seized. Our investigation is on,” said Bharat Nawale, deputy commissioner of customs at the Pune airport.
“Smuggling gold in the semi-solid form has become a common affair at the Pune airport. We are now alert all the time,” he added.  During questioning, Nawale said, the flyer admitted that he was possessing, carrying and concealing the gold.
