More Pune-Bangkok flights needed: Envoy

Pune: Thailand’s ambassador to India Chutintorn Gongsakdi on Saturday said the city needed “plenty more” flights per week to Bangkok to tide over the seat shortage on the India-Thailand sector.
“The available number of seats per week on flights between the two countries is definitely not enough. Almost all Thai carriers, be it full service or low-cost airlines, flying between India and Thailand are fully booked. Thai carriers want to add around 6,000 more seats per week on the sector from a number of Indian airports, but that has not been approved till now because Indian carriers have not achieved adequate load on their flights,” he told TOI.

Gongsakdi was in the city to interact with Thai investors, as well as to inaugurate a Thai food festival at hotel Hyatt in Kalyaninagar. He added that the country is keen on attracting more tourists from tier-II cities, especially in the northeast.

“The good thing about tier-II cities is that there is a general open-sky policy. These places will be of lot of importance due to Indian government’s Act East policy, and we expect to have more tourism and business ties with them,” he remarked.
