Mumbai airport name to get longer with ‘Maharaj’

Mumbai: The government has taken steps to add the word “Maharaj” to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The ministry of civil aviation has cleared the proposal to rename the airport Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and sent it to the PMO for approval, said a ministry official. “The Prime Minister has given his approval and now a gazette notification will be issued, following which Maharaj will be added to the airport name,” the official said.

An official said a number of international agencies like the International Air Transport Association and airlines would need to be notified about the change after it happens.
