Tyre burst disrupts runway operations at IGI

New Delhi: Runway operations at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were disrupted for nearly an hour on Thursday after an Air India flight from Jammu burst a tyre upon landing in the afternoon, sources said. The plane was landing on runway 11/29 of the airport and eventually halted at a taxiway, resulting in disruptions until it was safely towed.
Sources said flight delays were recorded, however, no injuries were reported and the passengers were safely taken out from the plane on the taxiway. The incident occurred around 12.30pm when the flight AI 3426 was landing. Sources also said two of its tyres had been deflated by the time it reached the taxiway.
“Despite disruption, operations were not stopped and no diversions were recorded. The flight had to be towed away to safety after the passengers exited from the flight,” said a source.
A firefighting team, an ambulance and ground staff reached the spot before the airlines used mobile stairs to bring out the passengers.
