Online campaign for more flights to Bhopal

Bhopal: Around 5,000 fliers from across the globe have come together on social media to demand better air connectivity to and from Bhopal. They have created a Facebook page and started an online campaign.
TOI had reported on Saturday how Bhopal airport is connected to only Mumbai, Delhi and Raipur and its two aerobridges are white elephants because of the low flight count. “I live in Bengaluru. Every time I have to land at Indore and travel by road to Bhopal as there is no connectivity. There is a huge demand to connect Bhopal with southern parts of the country like Bengaluru and Hyderabad,” said frequent flyer Prachi Baluapuri. She is the admin of the FB page created to raise demand for better air connectivity from Bhopal airport. Members of the group are from diverse backgrounds — businessman, professors, entrepreneurs, IT employees and students. In the FB survey, flyers were asked which cities need to be connected with Bhopal and the top choices were Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad.
Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Nagpur and Lucknow also got a lot of votes. Many want a direct flight from Raja Bhoj Airport to Dubai. A member of the group campaigning for change, Rajat Mittal, pointed out that all flights from Bengaluru and Hyderabad towards Delhi fly over Bhopal. “Why not give a halt at Bhopal?” he asked. Another frequent flyer, Amit Kumar Jain, said air connectivity is a big problem for Bhopal. “I am sure that with better air connectivity, Bhopal’s economic growth will also take off. If the Madhya Pradesh capital is linked to all big cities of the country by air, it will be transformed,” said Jain.
