Uttar Pradesh government given 'in-principle' approval for Jewar airport: Civil aviation ministry

The Union civil aviation ministry informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the Centre has granted 'in-principle' approval to the Uttar Pradesh government for setting up of the Noida International Greenfield Airport near Jewar on Wednesday, to handle an additional 30-50 million passengers per annum and to ease congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The ministry also informed that the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has been entrusted with the task of notifying and acquiring 3,000 hectare of land for the proposed world-class airport and land has been reserved by the authority for the same.

The airport at Jewar is to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 15,754 crore in four phases. However, the timeline of the construction will depend on several factors such as concessionaire, availability of land, mandatory clearances, financial closures, connectivity, utility services, among others, the civil aviation ministry said.
