Air ambulance tyre catches fire on landing at IGI Airport, all safe

New Delhi: An air ambulance flying into Delhi had a narrow escape when a tyre caught fire on landing at IGI Airport on Thursday. Airport sources say the Beechcraft King Air (VT-SLK) had five passengers on board, apart from crew.

“The right rear tyre caught fire on landing. Fire tenders were rushed and the fire was doused. There was no injury,” a source said. Till the time of going to press, it could not be ascertained where the aircraft was flying in from.

This air ambulance (VT-SLK) reportedly belongs to the same operator whose Beech King Air twin engine turboprop had force landed in Najafgarh in May 2016. That aircraft, also operating as air ambulance, was flying from Patna to IGI Airport. It reportedly ran out of fuel and then landed in a open field on Delhi-Haryana border, 10 km short of the airport.
