Airport Road cave-in: Report sought by Saturday

Mohali: Gurneet Kaur Tej, chief administrator (CA), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) has sought a detailed report from Gmada chief engineer Sunil Kansal on the service road cave-in near the International Airport. The report is to be submitted on or before September 22.
The report was sought after the service road running along the main road leading to Chandigarh international airport caved in, putting commuters in danger.

The road is meant for taxis and other vehicles approaching the airport. The service road has been declared unfit for use and has been closed to traffic. It caved in at three different places, said Sunil Kansal.

The airport road, an ambitious project of the Badal government, was constructed at a cost of Rs 169 crore three years ago. It was in the news for its faulty design and poor construction work. A vigilance inquiry is underway. Many samples were taken by experts before repair work was conducted. To the embarassment of Gmada, the service lane, which is part of the airport road, has caved in.
