Pune airport likely to get India’s first lounge for defence personnel

Pune, which has a prominent army and air force establishment, may soon have an exclusive lounge for defence personnel at its new airport terminal.
The proposal for this lounge was submitted by Dhairyashil Vandekar, a city-based aviation expert and analyst, who had written to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in April and has recently received a positive reply from their end.
Vandekar told Mirror, “There is a need for a lounge to be entirely dedicated for defence personnel and their families. Some travel long hours to reach the airport while transiting. The move will ensure their travel in comfort while setting an ideal example by being the first airport to provide such an amenity to the guardians of our nation. This is the least minimum that we can do to show our respect for these heroes who bear with all kinds of hardships to ensure we remain safe.”
AAI general manager, architecture, Anand Joshi, said, “AAI has already initiated action for construction of the new integrated terminal. The lounge facility could be carved out in the proposed development subject to availability of space. AAI officials give due respect to all armed forces officials travelling through airports and extend all support and help as and when required.”
