‘Airline operator delaying 2nd flight between capital and city’

Ludhiana: One and half years after the start of Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (Udan) scheme, the second flight between Delhi and Ludhiana is yet to begin. The second flight was expected to start by the end of last year but due to unknown reasons it has yet not taken off.
Airport authorities at Sahnewal airport said they have all facilities in place for the start which are required for the second flight. They said the airline operator is yet to communicate on this with them. They added that first flight started between Delhi and Ludhiana has been garnering witnessing good response.

Airport director, Sahnewal Airport, A N Sharma said the airport is fully equipped for operation of a second flight but there is no update on when the operator will start the operation of the same. He added that the airline operator was scheduled to start the flight by October last year but has not done so.

Airport officials said that this year Air Deccan, which was to operate the second flight between city and Delhi, had submitted proposal to Airport Authority of India (AAI) about the flight between Ludhiana to Delhi, Shimla and Kullu. They added that though the operator has started the service in Mumbai and are expected to start the service in Kolkata, it seems to be undecided about the Delhi operations.
