CISF takes charge of Kannur airport

Kannur: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) formally took charge of Kannur International Airport Ltd (Kial) after an induction ceremony on Wednesday. Kial officials said 50 CISF personnel took charge initially and more personnel are expected here in the first week of November.

The entire CISF battalion would be ready for duty by December 1, ahead of the commissioning of the airport on December 9, they said. The plan is to have 613 CISF personnel for airport security, apart from Kerala policemen on immigration duty.

Meanwhile, the work to complete all the necessary processes before the commissioning of the airport is in the final stage. The inaugural flight is likely to be an Air India Express flight to Abu Dhabi and a flight from Abu Dhabi is expected on the same day. The final announcement will be made after the airport approves the slot and the carrier can then start bookings, said an airport official.
