Cops scramble to check baggage theft at Delhi airport

New Delhi: Security agencies have beefed up surveillance in and around the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to check the menace of baggage theft as the festival season draws near.

The Delhi Police has briefed airlines to remain vigilant as the number of such incidents increases during this time.

Although Delhi Police claimed that incidents of baggage theft have gone down in the past few years, senior police officials told Mail Today that cases of theft increase during the summer and festive season.

On Monday, the police had arrested two executives of an airline for stealing mobile phones.

"On September 19, we received a complaint from the cargo operations manager of a firm regarding the theft of mobile phones. He stated that the theft took place when the cargo was being shifted from a GO Air flight," deputy commissioner of police (Airport) Sanjay Bhatia said.
