Mumbai: An alert official of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) manning the security check-in counters of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Tuesday flagged down a passenger, which led to the discovery of a gold bar worth ₹2.85 lakh in his wallet.
Assistant inspector general Hemendra Singh, CISF PRO, said that 5.50 a.m. on Tuesday, during the pre-embarkation security check at the domestic security hold area of Terminal 2, sub-inspector Raju Kumar was screening baggage through an X-BIS machine. Mr. Kumar noticed an opaque image inside the wallet of a passenger.
The passenger, Eajaj Ahmed Quazi, was supposed to travel from Mumbai to Mangaluru by Jet Airways flight S2-433 at 8.50 a.m. He was asked to open the wallet, and a gold bar weighing 100 gm worth approximately ₹2,85,915 lakh was found in it. When he could not produce any valid document, senior CISF and Customs officials were informed about it, Mr. Singh said. Mr. Quazi and the gold bar were handed over to Customs officials for legal action.
