GMR Hyderabad airport opens interim international departure terminal

Hyderabad: GMR-led Hyderabad International Airport has opened the interim international departure terminal. It is set to commence operations from October 23.

Rajiv Nayan Choubey, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA), today inaugurated the terminal in the presence of Shailendra Kumar Joshi, Chief Secretary, Telanganana, and GBS Raju, Business Chairman, Airports, GMR Group.

The terminal, built in six months, has been designed to cater to the continued growth in traffic, while the existing passenger terminal building has been expanded to increase the capacity.

The interim international departure terminal is an exclusive concourse to handle check-in, security, immigration, and Customs process for international passengers.

After completing these formalities, passengers will move into the main passenger terminal building using elevators and escalators, where they will have access to shopping, retail, food & beverages and lounge access.
The terminal is equipped with a host of new technologies, including India’s first-ever remote hand baggage screening facility, which when coupled with the new automatic tray retrieval system hand baggage screening, can offer up to double the passenger throughput at security checkpoints. This will cut down the waiting time and enhance the passenger experience.
