Singapore Airlines expects to attract more Indian fliers taking US flights

New Delhi: With new flight launches on the Singapore US sector, Singapore International Airlines expects to attract more Indian fliers taking their flights to the US.
"We are expanding to the US. We currently operate 40 flights a week between Singapore and the US, which will increase to 53 flights by December 7, 2018. These flights, with newer and better product, will be on offer for Indian passengers and we expect that Indians, flying to the west coast in the US, would prefer flying through Singapore rather than flying through India’s west,” David Lim, General Manager- India for Singapore Airlines told ET.
He added that SIA is launching flights connecting Singapore to Newark and Los Angeles over and above the San Francisco flight SIA has. “Of the total traffic between India and San Francisco, we have a market share of 10%. We are really optimistic about our flights to the US and hope to attain a double digit market share on flights to the west coast of the US,” he further said.
Currently, Air India is the only Indian carrier that provides direct connections from India to destinations in the US like Washington DC, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. Indian passengers to the US also fly through these hubs in the Middle East and by Lufthansa, among others.
