AAI upgrades Allahabad airport terminal plan

New Delhi: Prayagraj, Allahabad's new name, is all set to get the fastest-built airport terminal building in the country, in time for the Kumbh Mela that starts on January 15, 2019. While aiming to complete the terminal in a record 11 months, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also expanded its plans for the airport by deciding to build more aircraft parking bays than earlier planned.

"Since there is huge demand for connecting Prayagraj to other parts of the country, we are constructing more aircraft parking bays that were not planned earlier at an additional cost of Rs 40 crore," AAI chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said.

Prayagraj has an Indian Air Force station with a civil terminal of the size of a bungalow. "It must have been someone's house earlier. Two rooms of that bungalow serve as the arrival and departure hall," said the chairman.
