A steering jam in a non-scheduled aircraft resulted in runway closure for an hour at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhai Patel Airport, thereby leading to diversion of four arriving flights from Vadodara and Surat airports. As many as six departing flights were kept on hold, delaying their schedule.
Sources confirmed that it was an Airport Authority of India-owned aircraft that was stuck on runway before take-off. The aircraft was at Ahmedabad airport where technical inspection of the airport navigation systems was being conducted.
According to a statement issued by Airport Authority of India, “AAI calibration aircraft while taking off from Ahmedabad Airport reported steering wheel jammed. Taking aircraft safety requirements in to consideration, landing of following four flights were diverted:
