IGI Airport police arrests fake Army personnel

Delhi: Posing as an Army personnel, a 29-year-old student of Master of Arts (MA) from a Rajasthan-based university, identified as Mohammad Rakib, was arrested by the IGI Airport police after a case of cheating was registered against him.

According to a complaint filed at the domestic airport police station, complainant Akash Pal had accused an unknown person of faking to be an Army personnel. Pal alleged that the accused had put up an advertisement of sale of an I-phone 7 Plus phone on an online advertising site at a very cheap rate.

"Convinced with the reason of the phone been bought with a CSD card, the accused paid Rs 35,000 to the accused as a advanced payment. Later the accused told him to collect the phone from the domestic airport," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGI Airport, Sanjay Bhatia.
Thinking that the seller is an Army personnel, Pal deposited the advance money in the accused's PayTm wallet. However, when Pal reached the airport to collect the phone, the number provided by the accused went unanswered.

A special team was formed, which found that various PayTm accounts were sending the money to a particular bank amount. A probe revealed that the account was maintained by Mohammad Rakib, who had been using the account to transfer the money procured by cheating.
