IGI flights to be curtailed for a week due to runway repairs

New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi's IGI Airport are likely to be affected for a week - November 16-23 - due to runway repairs.

The airport operator, DIAL, said runway 27/09 was likely to be closed down for "preventive repairs" and maintenance from Friday for a week; the other two runways - 10/28 and 11/29 - will remain operational. "This could reduce the capacity of the airport by 50 arrivals and 50 departures per day during this period," a DIAL spokesperson said.

Initially, the airport had announced a 13-day runway closure in October, however, DIAL says the period has been reduced to ensure minimal disturbances take place in the functioning of the airport. The spokesperson also said the work being carried out had been planned in advance and is a routine activity to ensure safe aircraft operations.
