Missing Air India staffer: Cops arrest man for Rs 1 crore ransom call

New Delhi: A man who had been demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the family of an Air India employee, who was allegedly kidnapped from outside her house on Pandara Road in New Delhi on September 30, was apprehended by Haridwar police on Sunday.
The suspect has been identified as one Surender, sources said. It’s not yet clear if he abducted Sulakshna Narula or had just been making hoax calls since November 11 using the name Pankaj to extract money from her husband, Dr Sunil Narula, for her release.
A probe has revealed that the suspect had also made a similar ransom call to the family of an east Delhi man whose son is missing. The accused has a criminal history and was jailed earlier, police said.
The number was traced to one Simran who claimed that the phone was with her brother, Gaurav, who according to the family was missing since November 8. She said Gaurav had met with an accident and was admitted to Jolly Grant hospital. Police, however, found no one by that name was admitted there. Simran, meanwhile, lodged a missing complaint about her brother on November 12.
The ransom caller was finally traced to Muzaffarnagar. He will be questioned by east Delhi police after being brought to Delhi. Sources said that the second suspect, Gaurav, was also detained for questioning on Sunday evening.
