NRI woman carrying gold bars detained at RGIA

Hyderabad: An NRI woman passenger bound for Mumbai was detained by the officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, here on Sunday, for carrying five gold bars weighing 100 grams each.

During baggage screening, CISF constable Khushboo Kumari found suspicious article in Roshni Kothadia's bag. She was about to board Mumbai-bound Indigo airlines flight 6E 247 around 5.30 a.m.

Further, during physical check, the constable found five foreign-origin gold bars from the baggage. The woman passenger was not in possession of valid documents for the gold and told the official that her father-in-law gifted her those gold bars, who lives in the US with them, a CISF officer said.

“She was unable to produce any supporting documents like bills or any proof of duty payment for the gold she was carrying,” an official said.

Ms. Kothadia brought the gold bars worth ₹15 lakh from the USA on November 15.

The accused passenger along with the seized gold was handed over to the Custom officials for further investigation.
