Bhopal: For the first time, Bhopal airport will be connected to eight major cities in the country. From January 6, there will be round-the-clock flight movement at Raja Bhoj airport.
This has come after persistent efforts online campaign — Support Bhopal for Air Connectivity (SBFAC). As many as 5,000 flyers from across the globe had come together on social media to demand better air connectivity to and from Bhopal. As of now, Bhopal has direct flights to only Delhi, Mumbai and Raipur. A flight via Raipur connects Bhopal to Jaipur.
Spice Jet and IndiGo have announced to start their operations from Bhopal to six other cities from first week of January. The new flights will connect the city directly to Jaipur, Shirdi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. IndiGo will have two flights daily for Hyderabad. The air carrier will also start operations from Jabalpur to Hyderabad.
After IndiGo and SpiceJet, Raja Bhoj airport may see another airline setting base in the city. Sources said Vistara may start its operations from Bhopal soon. After the launch of operations by two new airlines, night parking of aircraft will also begin at the airport.
