Raipur: Inclement weather continued to hamper air operations at Swami Vivekananda Airport here on Friday. While inbound flight had to be diverted to Nagpur, arrival of six other flights from several major destinations was also delayed between 30 minutes to over 2 hours. Similar delays were also recorded during the departures of these flights.
Ever since the state witnessed rains for two overnights, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) personnel here in Raipur had been encountering difficulties while ensuring the safe landing and take-off of aircrafts to and from the airport. Yet, a proactive Raipur Airport Director Rakesh R Sahay had been overseeing the whole operations meticulously through synergised efforts of other team members from Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, Communication Navigation and Surveillance (CNS), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Airlines, Concessionaires and other stake holders.
“The first flight of the day, Air India AIC477 Delhi to Raipur, whose Schedule Time of Arrival (STA) is 0705 hours had to be diverted to Nagpur since fog had terribly reduced the visibility to 100 meter. Thus, the flight was delayed by 3 hours and 14 minutes to read its Actual Time of Arrival (ATA) at 1019 hours here from Nagpur,” Airport Director Rakesh R Sahay told The Hitavada.
